Chee Lam Design
Description
Completed collaboratively by Trigger Design and Toland, this unconventional and adventurous exhibition design for the Powerhouse Museum was conceived to provide an immersive visitor experience. The warehouse interior was pared back to reveal the original brick walls and then blackened out. A new ‘structural’ grid of steel mesh was then inserted which formed the back-bone of the exhibition and from which display cases comprising fluorescent edged acrylic were supported. Using a ‘kit of parts’, the exhibition showcases 900-odd objects. The steel mesh which features throughout also provided transparency and visual layering, creating extended glimpses through the different themed spaces.

The project was shortlisted in the 2010 Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).
